Born in 1970 in Samsun, Prof. Dr. Halil Coşkun graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in 1994 and completed his General Surgery specialization at Istanbul Medical Faculty in 2000. During his residency years, he became interested in Obesity and Metabolic Surgery, and with his thesis on “Adjustable Silicone Gastric Band for Morbid Obesity Treatment,” he became the first person in Turkey to have a thesis on obesity surgery.
International Education and Clinical Experience
Prof. Coşkun has received advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgery training and clinical observation at leading centers around the world, including Hamburg European Surgical Institute in Germany, Hôpital Universitaire St Pierre in Brussels, Cleveland Clinic Foundation (USA), New York Presbyterian Hospital – Weill Cornell Medical College, and Salzburg Obesity Academy.
Academic Career and Publications
He founded the Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Department at Bezmialem Vakıf University, became Associate Professor in 2010, and Professor in 2015. He has published scientific articles, case presentations, and editorial writings in many SCI journals, including the Obesity Surgery journal. Google Scholar h-index: 20, i10-index: 33.
