Patient Journey
An obesity patient tries many solutions over the years such as diet, exercise, and supportive medications to eliminate their struggles. However, these solutions may not be enough to eliminate the disease after a while. Obesity surgeries are scientifically proven treatments that are the most effective for weight loss worldwide.
If you think you are a suitable candidate for obesity surgery or if you have regained weight after surgery at another clinic, you can schedule a consultation with Prof. Dr. Halil Coşkun.
During this consultation, Prof. Coşkun will listen to your obesity history and the processes you’ve undergone so far, assess your suitability for surgery, and explain the appropriate solutions for you in detail.
Based on the information you gather, you may need to discuss the decision to undergo surgery with your family and get their support.
Once the surgery decision is made, you will be informed about the necessary pre-surgery preparations based on your current physical and mental state.
The initial processes for obesity surgery are as follows:
- Consultation with Prof. Dr. Halil Coşkun
- Determining your suitability for surgery
- If you are suitable for surgery, information about different types of surgery and which one is more appropriate for you
- Decision-making on the type of surgery together with Prof. Dr. Halil Coşkun
- Body analysis by Bariatric Specialist Dietitian Nida Yıldız
- Biochemistry, blood, electrolyte, and vitamin analysis
- Endocrinological evaluation
- Cardiological echocardiographic evaluation
- Pulmonology and respiratory function test evaluation
- Gastroenterology-endoscopic (gastroscopy) evaluation

- Covid-19 PCR and antibody test due to the pandemic
The surgery must be performed in a fully equipped hospital in terms of both technical infrastructure and human resources to ensure the success of the operation and the smooth resolution of potential issues. Therefore, the hospital where the surgery will be performed should have advanced technological devices, a strong team of doctors with a scientific approach, and organizational capabilities.
Your admission to the hospital will be planned for the morning of the surgery. After necessary preparations, the surgery will be performed using laparoscopic or robotic surgical techniques.
The hospital stay is typically three days. During this time, you will be re-informed about the post-surgery rules and reminders. Bariatric nutrition education will be provided.
Follow-up appointments will be scheduled. Subsequent appointments will be reminded, and efforts will be made to ensure the continuity of the treatment process.
If you experience any issues after discharge, our team will quickly provide solutions.
We establish a long-term collaboration with you to help you follow the post-surgery rules, control your progress, and prevent regaining weight. That’s why we encourage you to come to regular follow-ups. Additionally, we continue to support you in any matters you wish to consult during this process.
